Frank L. Morrison, Wheeling Bank Robbery, West Virginia 2018

A brazen daytime bank robbery in Wheeling left investigators scrambling to catch the suspect, and nearly two years later, a Pennsylvania man has been sentenced for the crime.

On September 2018, Frank L. Morrison, 59, of Braddock Hills, Pennsylvania, walked into the United Bank in Elm Grove, West Virginia, and made off with $4,200.

Morrison discarded his mask and other items into a nearby dumpster, but investigators recovered the material and obtained DNA evidence from the mask that matched with Morrison.

According to court documents, Morrison has prior armed bank robbery, robbery, and access device fraud convictions, which should have served as a warning to the public that he poses a threat to safety.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Clayton Reid and Carly Nogay prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

Investigative agencies include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the West Virginia State Police, and the Wheeling Police Department.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the sentencing hearing.

Morrison was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for the Wheeling bank robbery.
