A Guam resident has been sentenced to 108 months in prison for attempting to possess a large quantity of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
According to court documents, Franklin John Salas, 52.6 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride were intercepted by the U.S. Postal Inspector at the Barrigada Post Office on October 29, 2014. The methamphetamine was concealed within card-sized envelopes and sent from Las Vegas, Nevada to Guam.
The Drug Enforcement Administration Forensic Laboratory determined that the methamphetamine had a high purity level of 98.8%.
Salas pled guilty on December 9, 2014 to Attempted Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. Section 846(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C).
U.S. Attorney Alicia A.G. Limtiaco notes that methamphetamine hydrochloride is associated with violent crimes and has a devastating effect on individuals and the community.
The investigation was conducted by the Guam U.S. Postal Inspector and Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rosetta San Nicolas.
Salas was sentenced by the Honorable Frances Tydingco-Gatewood, Chief Judge, District Court of Guam, to serve 108 months incarceration followed by three years of supervised release, with credit for time served.
