Frederick McCoy, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Colorado 2022
A Denver man has been sentenced to 9.5 years in federal prison for possession of a stolen firearm.
Frederick McCoy, 39, was arrested on February 22, 2022, by Denver police officers on an outstanding warrant. During the arrest, officers discovered a loaded Sig Sauer .40 caliber handgun strapped to McCoy's chest in a fanny-pack. The handgun was reported stolen on October 3, 2021, in Denver. McCoy knew or had reason to know that the gun and ammunition were stolen.
On November 21, 2022, Judge Raymond P. Moore sentenced McCoy to 9.5 years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Denver Police Department, investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Albert Buchman handled the prosecution.
