Freedom C. Davis and Samuel L. Dunson, Explosives and Firearm Charges, Illinois 2015
Freedom C. Davis, 19, of Tamaroa, Illinois, and Samuel L. Dunson, 19, of DuQuoin, Illinois, are facing explosives and firearm charges after a federal indictment was returned against them.
The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury on August 21, 2015, charges Davis and Dunson with three counts of violating federal law.
According to the indictment, on August 5, 2015, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Davis and Dunson knowingly possessed a destructive device, an Improvised Explosive Incendiary Device, which had not been registered to either of them in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
Additionally, the indictment charges that on August 5, 2015, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Davis and Dunson knowingly possessed another destructive device, an Improvised Explosive Incendiary Device, which had not been registered to either of them in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
The third count charges that on August 5, 2015, Dunson knowingly possessed a firearm, a sawed-off shotgun, which had not been registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
Each count carries a possible penalty of up to 10 years' imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, and no more than 3 years' supervised release.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the DuQuoin Police Department, and the Illinois State Police Department.
The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney George Norwood.
