Mobile Man Sentenced to 188 Months for Carjacking

A Mobile, Alabama man has been sentenced to 188 months in prison for carjacking a victim at knife point in the city's parking lot.

On April 22, 2018, Gary Michael Gilmore, 33, of Mobile, committed the egregious crime, taking a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox from a person by force and violence and by intimidation with intent to cause death and serious bodily injury, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2119.

The victim was asleep in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Sahara Club on Schillinger Road when he was awoken with a knife to his throat.

Gilmore was apprehended in Citronelle, Alabama, after he ran from police by jumping into a lake. The stolen vehicle was recovered, and the defendant was subsequently taken into custody.

Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations along with deputies of the Mobile County, Alabama Sheriff’s office investigated the case and brought it to the U.S. Attorney's Office for prosecution. Assistant United States Attorney, Michael D. Anderson, was assigned to the case.

U.S. Attorney Richard W. Moore of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentencing, which was handed down by Judge Callie V.S. Granade.

Gilmore will serve the 188-month sentence for his egregious crime, bringing a measure of justice to the victim and the community.
