Gavin Little, Kidnapping, South Dakota 2019
A 23-year-old man from Marty, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 210 months in federal prison for his role in a kidnapping and assault that left a man severely injured.
Gavin Little, 23, was sentenced on November 4, 2019, by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier for his involvement in the kidnapping and assault of an adult male, Keith Cournoyer, on November 25, 2018.
According to the investigation, Little and two juveniles assaulted Cournoyer at a home in the east housing of Marty, on the Yankton Sioux Indian Reservation. After the man was severely beaten and unconscious, Little loaded him into a vehicle and left the scene, sparking a high-speed chase near Greenwood before he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Tribal officers found Cournoyer in the back of the vehicle, unconscious, and he was flown to Sioux Falls for emergency medical treatment.
The investigation was conducted by the Yankton Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper.
In addition to his prison sentence, Little was also ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100 and will serve 4 years of supervised release after his prison term.
The U.S. Marshals Service took custody of Little immediately after his sentencing.
