A Kentucky man has been slapped with a lengthy prison sentence for his role in distributing child pornography.

Gene Paul Pendygraft, 46, was sentenced to 292 months in federal prison, to be followed by a life term of supervised release, for knowingly receiving child pornography. This harsh sentence is a testament to the severity of the crime and the need for severe punishment.

The sentencing took place on Friday, with United States District Judge Danny C. Reeves formally handing down the sentence. Pendygraft will have to serve 85 percent of his federal prison sentence.

The investigation into Pendygraft's activities was a joint effort between the Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Kentucky State Police (KSP).

Pendygraft's laptop computer was seized during the investigation, and a forensic examination revealed seven videos of child pornography, including some that depicted children under the age of 12 and some that depicted sadistic or masochistic conduct.

The United States was represented by Assistant United States Attorney David Marye. The sentence serves as a warning to others who would engage in such heinous activities.

The case against Pendygraft is a grim reminder of the prevalence of child pornography and the need for continued efforts to combat this type of crime.

Pendygraft previously admitted to receiving images of child pornography on his laptop computer in November 2016.
