Convicted Sex Offender Sentenced to 50 Years in Prison for Attempting to Entice Child

Geoffrey Lee Dudding, a 40-year-old registered child sex offender from Concord, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 50 years in federal prison for attempting to entice an 11-year-old child to engage in sexual activity. Dudding was also ordered to serve a lifetime term of supervised release.

According to court documents, on January 13, 2025, an FBI agent, posing as the parent of an 11-year-old child, posted several short messages in a public chat room on an online social messaging platform. Dudding, using the app name 'metalh34d321,' contacted the agent by private text message and expressed sexual interest in the 'child.' Despite being advised that the 'child' was 11 years old and lived in Florida, Dudding stated that he wanted to meet the 'child' and 'have a good time and sex.'

Dudding and the agent also communicated by cellphone text messaging, discussing plans for Dudding to travel to Jacksonville, Florida, to engage in sexual activity with the 'child.' Dudding told the agent that he intended to book a hotel room in Jacksonville for the sexual encounter with the 'child.'

Geoffrey Lee Dudding, 40, Concord, NC, was previously convicted in North Carolina of indecent liberty with a minor in 2007 and solicitation of a child by computer to commit an unlawful sex act in 2024. He was also convicted of criminal solicitation of a minor in South Carolina in 2023. On May 8, 2025, Dudding was arrested in North Carolina and was later transported to Jacksonville for prosecution.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, and the Cabarrus County (NC) Sheriff's Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.

This case is another example of the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat child sex exploitation and abuse. As part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006, federal, state, and local resources are being marshaled to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify, rescue, and seek justice for child victims.
