New Orleans Man Convicted of Drug Trafficking Charges
A New Orleans man has been convicted of drug trafficking charges after a four-day trial. George Bennett, aka 'G', 39, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, distribution of a quantity of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, and possession with intent to distribute a quantity of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl.
The jury returned the guilty verdict on November 18, 2022, after hearing evidence presented by the prosecution. Bennett faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a maximum term of life imprisonment, up to a $10,000,000 fine, and at least 5 years supervised release.
Bennett must also pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100 for each count of conviction at sentencing. Sentencing in this matter is to be determined at a later date by the Court.
The case was investigated by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation New Orleans Gang Task Force. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys André Jones, Melissa Bücher, and Christopher D. Usher of the U.S. Attorney's Office.
