George Bennett, Fentanyl Trafficking, Louisiana 2023
A New Orleans man has been sentenced to 121 months in prison for violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act.
On April 13, 2023, George Bennett, a 40-year-old from the greater New Orleans area, was sentenced by United States District Judge Eldon E. Fallon to 121 months' imprisonment followed by a term of 10 years' supervised release and a mandatory $300.00 special assessment fee.
The sentence comes after Bennett's conviction at trial for violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Bennett was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute one-hundred (100) grams or more of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(B), and 846.
Bennett was also found guilty of distribution of a quantity of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, and possession with intent to distribute a quantity of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, both in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(C).
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation New Orleans Gang Task Force and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys André Jones, Melissa Bücher, and Christopher D. Usher of the Narcotics Unit.
