George Johnson, Drug Crimes and Supervised Release Violation, Virginia 2024

RICHMOND, Va. - A previously convicted felon who injured a Virginia State Trooper during a traffic stop was sentenced today to over 13 years in prison for drug crimes and a related federal supervised release violation.

George Johnson, 38, of Nottoway, was sentenced to 156 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and a supervised release violation.

Johnson injured a state trooper while resisting arrest for possessing over 130 grams of methamphetamine, consisting of thousands of pieces of crystals, 51 grams of marijuana, and 2.9 grams of cocaine.

The incident occurred in December 2017, when a Virginia State Police Trooper conducted a traffic stop on Johnson's vehicle.

Johnson was on federal supervised release for possession and intent to distribute cocaine-based drugs while carrying a firearm at the time of the incident.

G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, praised the law enforcement efforts that led to Johnson's conviction and sentencing.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration's Washington Field Division and the Virginia State Police.
