George L. Guynn, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Illinois 2023
A 61-year-old East Peoria man, George L. Guynn, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute at least 5 grams of methamphetamine, according to a federal indictment.
Guynn, of the 800 block of Meadow Avenue, was sentenced on April 27, 2023, to be followed by four years of supervised release, for his role in selling methamphetamine on two occasions in June and July of 2022.
According to the indictment, Guynn sold 55.6 grams of 99% pure methamphetamine during the first sale and 28.1 grams of methamphetamine that was 96% pure during the second sale. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents obtained a search warrant for Guynn's apartment, where they found 46.577 grams of methamphetamine that was 89% pure under his bed, along with paraphernalia related to drug trafficking.
The investigation into Guynn's activities was carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Springfield Field Office, and the Western Illinois Transnational Organized Crime Task Force, with assistance from the Monmouth Police Department, Knox County Sheriff's Office, Galesburg Police Department, and the U.S. Department of Justice's Drug Enforcement Administration.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Keith Hollingshead-Cook represented the United States in the prosecution. Guynn has remained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since his arrest.
The statutory penalties for possession with intent to distribute at least 5 grams of methamphetamine (actual) are 5 to 40 years' imprisonment, followed by a four-year to life term of supervised release.
