Gerardo Delgadillo, Marijuana Distribution, West Virginia 2018
California Man Sentenced for Marijuana Charge
A 30-pound marijuana distribution scheme has come to an end in West Virginia, with a California man facing the consequences.
Gerardo Delgadillo, 22, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, announced United States Attorney Mike Stuart.
According to court documents, Delgadillo admitted to possessing approximately 30 pounds of marijuana in his suitcase when he flew to Tri-State Airport in Kenova, West Virginia from California on October 17, 2018. He also admitted to intending to sell the marijuana.
“Thirty pounds of pot in a suitcase on a plane,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “Marijuana is and remains illegal. We actively prosecute marijuana distribution regardless of whether it’s brought into West Virginia by plane, train, bus, boat, car, or UFO.”
The Violent Crime Drug Task Force West conducted the investigation, and United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie S. Taylor handled the prosecution.
Delgadillo’s sentence serves as a reminder that the law does not differentiate between marijuana distribution methods, and those caught will face severe consequences. The case is a stark example of the ongoing war on marijuana distribution in West Virginia.
