Golden Corral Settles with Justice Department Over ADA Violations
In a move to make its restaurant in Farmington, New Mexico, more accessible to people with disabilities, Golden Corral Corp. has agreed to a settlement with the Justice Department.
The investigation, which was part of the Project Civic Access initiative, revealed that the restaurant had architectural barriers to access that needed to be addressed.
As part of the agreement, Golden Corral will make physical modifications to its facilities, including designated accessible parking spaces, a counter, men's and women's restrooms, and signage, mirrors, coat hooks, and accessible toilet stalls.
The Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities have full and equal enjoyment of goods and services in their community, said Principal Deputy Attorney General Vanita Gupta.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires businesses to make accommodations for people with disabilities and to remove architectural barriers to make their businesses accessible.
Under the agreement, Golden Corral will work cooperatively with the department to remedy the barriers in compliance with the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
The Justice Department's ADA Information Line is available at 1-800-514-0301 or 1-800-514-0383 (TTY), and its ADA Web site is at www.ada.gov.
