Gregory Crawford, Firearms Possession by a Felon, Connecticut 2021
East Hartford Man Behind Bars for Illegally Possessing Firearm in Hartford
A 37-year-old East Hartford man, GREGORY CRAWFORD, has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm in Hartford.
According to court documents, on June 29, 2020, Crawford was involved in a high-speed chase through downtown Hartford, striking multiple vehicles before coming to a stop in front of the Old State House. At the time of his arrest, police seized a loaded Haskell Hi-Point .45 pistol and quantities of crack cocaine and PCP from Crawford's possession.
Crawford's extensive criminal history includes state convictions for felony assault, robbery, and narcotics offenses. At the time of his arrest, he was also on state special parole.
Following his arrest, Crawford pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon on March 1, 2021. Today, U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer sentenced Crawford to 36 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence does not include credit for the approximately 11 months Crawford has served in state custody.
This investigation was conducted by the FBI's Connecticut Violent Crime Task Force and the Hartford Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David T. Huang as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Crawford began serving his federal sentence today and will be supervised for three years upon his release. This is a prime example of the consequences of violating firearms laws and the importance of community involvement in reducing crime.
