HARRISBURG - Gregory Mitzel, a 59-year-old York County, Pennsylvania resident, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for influencing, impeding, retaliating against a federal official by threat.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Mitzel began posting threats on the internet to then-President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. in September 2023 and continued through July 2024.
After notification that his threats were being jointly investigated by the United States Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the United States Attorney’s Office, Mitzel called the assigned Assistant U.S. Attorney, identified himself, and proceeded to threaten the prosecutor and the prosecutor’s family.
The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gerard T. Donahue prosecuted the case.
Mitzel pleaded guilty to the offense prior to his sentencing on May 8, 2025, before United States District Judge Karoline Mehalchick.
