Harrington Alonzo, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, New Mexico 2019
A shocking crime has shaken the community in Pinehill, New Mexico, as 34-year-old Harrington Alonzo pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon in Indian Country and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and possessing and discharging the firearm in furtherance of such crime.
According to court documents, the crime occurred in Cibola County on April 24, 2019. Alonzo, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, allegedly assaulted a Navajo Nation police officer by shooting at the officer with a semiautomatic handgun. The officer was responding to a domestic dispute between Alonzo and his girlfriend.
The Gallup resident office of the FBI and the Ramah Navajo Police Department investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Novaline D. Wilson is prosecuting the case.
Alonzo is currently in custody pending sentencing. The guilty plea was entered on January 6 in federal court in Albuquerque. A grand jury previously returned an indictment against Alonzo on May 22, 2019.
