Fort Wayne Man Sentenced to 60 Months in Prison

Billy Harris, a 38-year-old resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced U.S. Attorney Kirsch.

Harris was sentenced before U.S. District Court Judge Holly A. Brady in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on April 14, 2023, after pleading guilty to the charge.

According to court documents, Harris was found to have possessed a firearm in July 2017, after being convicted of two felony offenses. In 2012, Harris was convicted of resisting law enforcement, and in 2015, he was convicted of invasion of privacy and domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16 years of age, both convictions were in Allen Superior Court, Allen County, Indiana.

Harris's convictions demonstrate a clear disregard for the law and a willingness to engage in violent behavior. His sentence serves as a reminder that felons who possess firearms will be held accountable for their actions.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with the assistance of the Indiana State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Lesley Miller-Lowery handled the case.

Harris will serve 60 months in prison followed by 2 years of supervised release. His conviction and sentence serve as a warning to others who may engage in similar behavior.
