Heath Lee Roberson, 39, of Modesto, Sentenced to Prison for Tax Fraud Conspiracy
Fresno, CA – In a shocking turn of events, Heath Lee Roberson, 39, of Modesto, has been sentenced to 2 years and 9 months in prison for conspiring to submit false claims to the IRS.
According to court documents, Roberson and a co-defendant obtained personal identifying information from over 40 individuals, using the information to generate false tax returns, which they then submitted to the IRS.
The scheme, which took place from December 2010 to May 2011, resulted in the defendants receiving tax refunds, which were deposited into accounts they controlled.
US Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced the sentencing, stating that Roberson’s actions were a serious offense against the law and the American people.
Senior United States District Judge Anthony W. Ishii handed down the sentence, ordering Roberson to pay $66,322 in restitution to the IRS.
This case was a result of a thorough investigation by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation.
Assistant US Attorney Michael G. Tierney prosecuted the case, bringing justice to the victims of Roberson’s crimes.
