Hector Laureano, Robbery and Assault, Massachusetts 2024
A shocking crime unfolded in Massachusetts, leaving a confidential informant shaken. On May 4, 2023, Hector Laureano, a 38-year-old Chicopee man, intentionally assaulted the informant while they were performing official duties.
Using a firearm, Laureano allegedly robbed the confidential informant of $1,400 belonging to the United States. The assault and robbery were egregious, and authorities swiftly acted to apprehend the perpetrator.
Laureano was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2023. His crimes did not go unpunished, as he pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting with a dangerous weapon a person assisting an officer or employee of the United States in performance of official duties; one count of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence; and one count of robbery of money of the United States.
On October 25, 2024, Laureano was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni to 147 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. This severe punishment serves as a deterrent to others who may consider committing similar crimes.
The investigation and prosecution of this case were led by Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse of the Springfield Branch Office prosecuted the case.
