Hells Angels & Red Devils Members, Murder & Violent Racketeering, North Carolina 2023
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA - Sixteen members of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club and the Red Devils Motorcycle Club have been charged with various crimes related to a violent racketeering enterprise in North Carolina, according to a recent indictment.
The indictment, unsealed in the Eastern District of North Carolina, charges the defendants with murder in aid of racketeering, attempted murder in aid of racketeering, assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering, and obstruction of justice.
The charges stem from two violent incidents: the murder of a Pagan's Motorcycle Club member on January 1, 2023, in Raleigh, and a violent assault of Pagan's Motorcycle Club members on July 22, 2023, in the parking lot of a Dairy Queen restaurant in Wade, North Carolina.
According to the indictment, five defendants are charged with murder in aid of racketeering for allegedly killing the Pagan's Motorcycle Club member. Two additional defendants are charged with accessory after the fact for their alleged actions following the murder.
Eight defendants are charged with attempted murder in aid of racketeering and assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering for their alleged roles in the violent assault of Pagan's Motorcycle Club members. One defendant is charged with obstruction for allegedly attempting to dissuade a witness from assisting the criminal investigation of this case.
The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club and the Red Devils Motorcycle Club are notorious for their lawless and violent behavior, according to law enforcement officials. The Red Devils are the main support club nationwide for the Hells Angels.
The indictment demonstrates the commitment of the Justice Department and local law enforcement partners to hold accountable those responsible for acts of violence that terrorize local communities, said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri, head of the Justice Department's Criminal Division.
