Herbert Lee White, Interstate Transportation of Stolen Motor Vehicles, Pennsylvania 2023
A federal court in Pennsylvania has handed down a three-year prison sentence to Herbert Lee White, a 51-year-old resident of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, for his conviction of interstate transportation of stolen motor vehicles.
Sr. U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on White, who was convicted of the crime.
According to information presented to the court, between January of 2016 and December of 2018, White traveled from New Jersey to retail dealerships in Pennsylvania and Maryland for the purpose of stealing heavy equipment and utility vehicles. He then transported the stolen items to New Jersey to be sold.
The investigation into White's activities was conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police Western Regional Auto Theft Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung commended the investigation and prosecution, stating that the successful prosecution was a result of the hard work of law enforcement agencies.
In addition to his prison sentence, Judge Cercone ordered White to pay restitution in the amount of $145,000 to the victims and their insurance companies.
White's sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release.
The case is a reminder of the importance of law enforcement's efforts to combat interstate auto theft and the consequences of such crimes.
