A Missouri man pleaded guilty Monday to robbing a bank in Osage City, Kansas.

Hunter Lee Prewitt, 28, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery in a federal court in Wichita, Kansas.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Prewitt robbed the Landmark National Bank at 106 South 6th Street in Osage City, Kansas. He handed a teller a note saying: 'This a robbery. Give me all one hundreds, fifties and twenties.' He then left the bank with cash and drove away in a white pickup truck.

Investigations led by the FBI, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Osage County Sheriff's Office, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol tracked Prewitt's movements. They obtained video surveillance photos and followed his white 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck, which was registered to Prewitt.

He was arrested outside Springfield, Missouri.

Prewitt is set to be sentenced on December 18, 2023. The penalty for bank robbery carries a maximum of 20 years in a federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

U.S. Attorney Tom Beall commended the FBI, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Osage County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Heart of America Computer Forensics Laboratory, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Maag for their work on the case.

The case is a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and swift action by law enforcement to bring those responsible for crimes to justice.
