Published October 2, 2019

Newark, New Jersey - In a shocking turn of events, Ibn Saadiq, a 22-year-old member of the notorious 'Famous Boyz' street gang, has pleaded guilty to distributing narcotics as part of a conspiracy. According to court documents, Saadiq, also known as 'Zero,' admitted to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.

On September 30, 2019, a grand jury returned a 21-count superseding indictment charging Saadiq and five other members of the gang with various crimes, including conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine and heroin. The indictment revealed that the gang, a subset of the Brick City Brim set of the Bloods street gang, dealt significant quantities of heroin and crack cocaine in the area of South 18th Street and 15th Avenue in Newark.

The guilty plea marks the seventh defendant to plead guilty in the case. Saadiq is scheduled to be sentenced on February 22, 2024, and faces up to 20 years in prison. The charges in the superseding indictment and previous criminal complaint remain pending against the other defendants, who are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

According to court documents, the investigation into the 'Famous Boyz' gang began in October 2018, when Saadiq and 16 other members of the gang were charged by criminal complaint with conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and/or heroin. The investigation revealed that the gang used wiretaps to communicate and coordinate their illicit activities.

The 'Famous Boyz' gang, also known as the '8 Block,' operated primarily in the area of South 18th Street and 15th Avenue in Newark. The gang's members and associates dealt significant quantities of heroin and crack cocaine, often referring to the area as the '8 Block,' '18th,' or simply by reference to the number '8.'
