SCRANTON, Pennsylvania - In a shocking turn of events, Isiah Robinson, a 37-year-old inmate at the United States Penitentiary at Canaan, was sentenced to 27 months in prison for assaulting another inmate with a dangerous weapon. The attack, which left the victim with non-life-threatening injuries, occurred in October 2020.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Robinson previously pleaded guilty to assaulting another inmate at USP Canaan with a sharpened piece of metal, commonly known as a “shank.” The incident was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons Special Investigative Service.
Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara prosecuted the case, which stems from Robinson’s actions in October 2020. At the time, Robinson was serving a sentence of 120 months from the District of Maryland for heroin trafficking.
The sentencing, which took place on January 23, 2024, before U.S. District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion, brings a sense of closure to the case. Robinson’s 27-month prison sentence is a result of his guilty plea, which acknowledged his role in the assault.
