Ocala, Florida – In a disturbing case of attempted enticement of a minor, 23-year-old Ismael Osbaldo Pedro Tomas from Guatemala has been indicted by the United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.

The indictment, which was returned on an undisclosed date, charges Pedro Tomas with attempting to persuade, induce, entice, and coerce an individual he believed was under 18 years old to engage in prostitution and sexual activity between July 22 and August 11, 2025.

According to the indictment, Pedro Tomas's actions are punishable by a minimum sentence of 10 years, up to life in federal prison if he is convicted.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The case was investigated by the Marion County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Security Investigations, and it will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
