Ismael Quintero Arellanes, Drug Trafficking, New York 2020
Brooklyn, NY - Ismael Quintero Arellanes, an associate of a Sinaloa Cartel leader, has been charged with participating in an international conspiracy to manufacture and distribute heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana, as well as unlawful use of firearms.
According to a superseding indictment unsealed in federal court in Brooklyn, Quintero Arellanes is accused of working with members of the Rafael Caro Quintero drug trafficking organization, a faction of the Mexican organized crime syndicate known as the Sinaloa Cartel. The indictment alleges that the organization flooded the United States with large quantities of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana between 1980 and 2018.
Quintero Arellanes was captured in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico on January 29, 2020. The United States intends to seek his extradition to face charges in the Eastern District of New York.
“As alleged in the superseding indictment, the defendant conspired with members of the Caro Quintero drug trafficking organization to flood the United States with large quantities of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana,” stated United States Attorney Richard P. Donoghue. “This Office, together with our partners on the New York Strike Force, will relentlessly pursue the leadership of violent drug cartels and their associates until they are brought to justice.”
The investigation was led by the New York Strike Force, a crime-fighting unit comprising federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies supported by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and the New York/New Jersey High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.
