Jack Edwin McCoy, Arranging Drug Deals, West Virginia 2014

A former mail carrier has been sentenced for arranging over 100 drug deals while on-duty in West Virginia.

Jack Edwin McCoy, 30, of White Sulfphur Springs, West Virginia was sentenced to three years of probation including four months of home confinement and 150 hours of community service on February 20, 2014, after pleading guilty to using a telephone to facilitate the sale of illegal drugs.

According to federal court records, McCoy used a phone to tell a confidential informant working with law enforcement where to meet him to buy buprenorphine, a controlled substance found in the medication Suboxone.

After the telephone conversation, the informant met McCoy in Ronceverte, West Virginia where McCoy sold the informant a Suboxone strip. At the time of the transaction, McCoy was working a shift as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.

McCoy admitted that he had sold about 270 suboxone strips, and that he had sold about 100 times while on duty as a mail carrier. He is no longer employed by the Postal Service.

The case was investigated by the Greenbrier Valley Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force and the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney John File, and was pursued under the Greenbrier County Heroin and Pill Initiative.

The Greenbrier County Heroin and Pill Initiative is part of an ongoing effort by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, to aggressively pursue and shut down heroin and illegal prescription medication trafficking in communities across the Southern District.
