Defendant Sentenced to 156 Months for Heroin Distribution

In a harsh blow to the opioid epidemic, Jacob Alan Seiger, a 24-year-old from Yakima, Washington, was sentenced to 156 months in federal prison for his role in distributing heroin. The sentence, handed down by United States District Court Judge Thomas O. Rice, will be followed by a three-year term of court supervision upon release.

According to court proceedings, Seiger sold heroin to multiple individuals between 2013 and early 2014. In a particularly tragic case, an individual obtained heroin from Seiger in February 2014 and died shortly thereafter due to a heroin overdose. This incident led to Seiger’s indictment in May 2014 on charges of conspiracy to distribute heroin, three counts of distribution of heroin, and one count of distribution of heroin resulting in death.

Seiger pleaded guilty to distribution of heroin on November 12, 2014. In response to the growing opioid crisis, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington is co-sponsoring a multi-disciplinary Opioid Summit on May 5th in Ellensburg, Washington.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration with the assistance of the Yakima Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin D. Seal prosecuted the case.

The harsh sentence handed down to Seiger serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of heroin distribution. Heroin is a Schedule I controlled substance, making it one of the most addictive and deadly substances on the market.

The opioid crisis continues to plague communities across the nation, and this sentencing is a step towards holding those responsible accountable for their actions. Grimy Times will continue to cover this ongoing issue and bring attention to the devastating effects of heroin distribution.
