Jacob Nelson, Operating a Drug House, Illinois 2013

Dupo, IL - In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Jacob Nelson, 32, of Dupo, has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for operating a drug house in the 100 block of North Third Street in Dupo, Illinois.

According to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, Nelson was sentenced on September 9, 2013, after a jury convicted him of three federal charges. The jury found Nelson guilty of Maintaining Drug Involved Premises at his home in Dupo, and also found him guilty of unlawfully possessing two firearms. Nelson was acquitted on a fourth charge of distributing heroin with death resulting.

Nelson's neighbors testified during his jury trial in April that he had sold heroin, cocaine, and marijuana '24/7' between July 2010 and July 2011. Nelson has been confined since his arrest in February, 2012.

Upon his release from prison, Nelson will be required to complete a term of three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, and to pay special assessments of $300.

The investigation that led to Nelson's arrest, conviction, and sentence was conducted by the Columbia, IL Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Garrison.

Nelson's sentencing marks a significant victory in the ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking in Southern Illinois. The community is breathing a sigh of relief as the streets of Dupo are now safer due to the removal of this notorious drug house.
