Jacob Nolan Jessup, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Oklahoma 2022
A 35-year-old man from Oklahoma has been sentenced to 71 months of imprisonment for possessing a firearm after prior convictions.
U.S. District Judge Terence C. Kern handed down the sentence to Jacob Nolan Jessup, a citizen of Muscogee (Creek) Nation, after he pleaded guilty to two separate counts of felon in possession of a firearm.
The charges stem from two separate incidents, one in March 2022 and another in August 2020, where Jessup was found in possession of a loaded handgun and a stolen firearm, respectively.
On March 14, 2022, the Tulsa Police Department responded to a 911 call of a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot. When officers arrived, they found Jessup asleep in the vehicle, which he had closed on them after being asked to step out. A search of the vehicle revealed an empty holster on his waistband and a loaded handgun, which was reported stolen out of Broken Arrow.
The second incident occurred on August 10, 2020, when Tulsa Police officers responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress. Officers arrived to see Jessup walking away from the area and found a loaded firearm discarded in a nearby dumpster.
Jessup will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Tulsa Police Department investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Dunn prosecuting the case.
This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer through partnerships between law enforcement and the community.
