Iowa Man Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Gun and Marijuana Charges
A 21-year-old man from Evansdale, Iowa, has been sentenced to 3 years in federal prison for firing a stolen gun at other drug dealers.
Jacob Tyler Ray Foss, 21, pleaded guilty to being a drug user in possession of a firearm and was sentenced on November 4, 2020 by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids.
Foss was fined $1,000 and must serve a 3-year term of supervised release after his prison term. He is currently being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Emily K. Nydle and was investigated by a Federal Task Force composed of the Waterloo Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms assisted by the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office and Cedar Falls Police Department.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime in communities. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
The case is also part of Project Guardian, a federal initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws. Project Guardian enhances coordination of federal, state, local, and tribal authorities in investigating and prosecuting gun crimes.
Jacob Tyler Ray Foss was sentenced to 36 months' imprisonment and fined $1,000. He must also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after his prison term.
Foss was charged with being a drug user in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver marijuana. He admitted to firing a stolen gun at two men who attempted to kick in his door, and continuing to fire at their car after they left his door.
