Jacob Voshell, Felon in Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Iowa 2014
Cedar Rapids, Iowa - A local man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a stolen firearm.
Jacob Voshell, 46, was found guilty of the crime after a guilty plea in January 2014. The charges stem from a high-speed chase that ended with Voshell crashing a stolen vehicle and attempting to flee on foot.
During the search of the vehicle, police found a loaded, stolen handgun, a police scanner, burglary tools, stolen license plates, and personal use amounts of controlled substances.
According to court documents, Voshell was prohibited from possessing firearms due to his 1987 conviction for Robbery in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree.
Voshell was sentenced to 105 months' imprisonment by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. The sentence will run consecutively to the seven years Voshell is currently serving for three other convictions.
In addition to his prison term, Voshell must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. A special assessment of $100 was imposed.
The case was being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney C.J. Williams and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Voshell is currently being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
