Jaime Montalvo-Mariscal, Fentanyl Trafficking, Washington 2019

Published November 19, 2019

Jaime Montalvo-Mariscal, a 27-year-old resident of Pasco, Washington, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison for his role in a substantial drug trafficking organization (DTO) with ties to the Sinaloa cartel.

In a shocking display of brazen criminal activity, Montalvo-Mariscal was found to have collected over $700,000 in cash proceeds from drug trafficking during a two-month period.

The DTO, which shipped large quantities of drugs to Eastern Washington on a bi-weekly basis, was dismantled through a targeted investigation by the DEA, Tri-Cities FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Washington.

During the investigation, authorities seized over 40 pounds of methamphetamine, 5 pounds of heroin, approximately 40,000 counterfeit pharmaceutical pills laced with fentanyl, a cache of firearms, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Montalvo-Mariscal's sentence was handed down by Senior United States District Judge Nielsen on November 18, 2019. He will serve 210 months in federal prison, followed by a 5-year term of court supervision if he is allowed to return to the United States.

The investigation revealed that the DTO supplied distributors with between 2,500 and 5,000 pills per week in the Eastern District of Washington, highlighting the devastating impact of fentanyl on the community.

United States Attorney William D. Hyslop commended the efforts of the DEA, FBI, and state and local law enforcement partners who investigated the case, stating that targeting fentanyl distribution cases is a high priority in addressing the opioid addiction crisis in the community.
