Jairo Yoel Montoya-Amador, Assault and Damage to Government Property, Louisiana 2026
New Orleans, LA - In a brazen attack, Jairo Yoel Montoya-Amador, a 21-year-old Honduran national, allegedly rammed a pickup truck occupied by a United States Deportation Officer with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and forcibly assaulted the officer, who was performing official duties.
According to the indictment, the incident occurred on May 14, 2026, when law enforcement officers attempted to pull over the vehicle Montoya-Amador was driving and execute a box-in maneuver.
The indictment charges Montoya-Amador with two counts: assaulting a federal officer, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1)(A), and damaging government property, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1361.
As a result of the allegations, Montoya-Amador faces a maximum term of imprisonment of eight years, followed by up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000, as to Count One of the indictment.
He also faces a maximum imprisonment of ten years, followed by up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000, as to Count Two of the indictment. A mandatory special assessment fee of $100 applies to both counts.
U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle reiterated that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
