Jake Noal Northern, Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl, Minnesota 2023

A North Dakota felon has been indicted for his role in a massive fentanyl trafficking operation in Minnesota, announced United States Attorney Andrew M. Luger.

According to court documents, Jake Noal Northern, a 45-year-old felon from North Dakota, knowingly and willingly conspired with others to distribute fentanyl in Minnesota and surrounding areas.

The conspiracy began in February 2023 and continued through approximately April 21, 2023, when Northern was allegedly distributing the deadly opioid.

Northern was indicted on one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, a charge that carries significant prison time and fines for those convicted.

On October 8, 2024, Northern made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court before Magistrate Judge Douglas L. Micko and was subsequently ordered detained pending trial.

This case is the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office, the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren O. Roso and Allen S. Slaughter are prosecuting the case, which is a testament to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the growing threat of fentanyl in our communities.

Northern's indictment serves as a warning to those involved in the trafficking of deadly opioids: we will not tolerate such activities and will pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
