Published March 9, 2015

A Kirkland resident has been arrested for allegedly making repeated threats to kill a former Ferguson, Missouri police officer and his family, as well as other law enforcement officers.

Jaleel Tariq Abdul-Jabbaar, 46, was arrested at his home in Kirkland, Washington, without incident, and will make his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Seattle at 2:00 p.m. today.

According to the complaint, Abdul-Jabbaar made repeated threats to kill the officer, members of his family, and other law enforcement officers on his Facebook page shortly after the August 9, 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, through late November. The threats included statements such as "We need to kill (the officer) and anything that has a badge on."

Abdul-Jabbaar also used Facebook communications to attempt to acquire a firearm, the complaint alleges.

Making interstate threats is punishable by up to five years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Washington.

The case is being investigated by the FBI and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Todd Greenberg.

The charges contained in the complaint are only allegations. A person is presumed innocent unless and until he or she is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
