A brazen hotel robbery that left a desk clerk battered and bruised has ended with a 32-year-old Wolf Point woman behind bars. Jalissa Haley Fern Spotted Bird was sentenced to 30 months in prison and two years of supervised release for her role in the September 15, 2019, robbery of the Sherman Inn in Wolf Point.

According to court documents, Spotted Bird and another individual stormed into the hotel at 5:45 a.m. and demanded money from the desk clerk. The assault and robbery were captured on security camera footage, which showed Spotted Bird hitting and kicking the clerk as she demanded cash.

A hotel patron intervened, stopping the assault and allowing the clerk to escape.

Spotted Bird pleaded guilty to robbery on October 15, 2020, and was detained pending sentencing. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case.

The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ethan Plaut and Cassady Adams, who were assisted by the Fort Peck Law Enforcement Services in the investigation.

Spotted Bird's sentence marks the end of a violent and brazen crime that shocked the community. The exact amount of money stolen during the robbery was not disclosed.
