Jamarhi Raheem Lucas, Machine Gun Possession, Mississippi 2018
A Natchez man has pleaded guilty to possessing a machine gun in a case that's part of a larger initiative to reduce violent crime in the Southern District of Mississippi.
Jamarhi Raheem Lucas, 23, of Natchez, pleaded guilty to possessing a machine gun on June 4, 2020, before Senior U.S. District Judge David C. Bramlette III.
According to court documents, Lucas was one of two men standing outside a residence on Ouachita St. in Natchez on September 22, 2018, when law enforcement officers approached him. Lucas attempted to flee, but officers detained him and found a short-barreled rifle that was fully automatic, a machine gun, in the car that belonged to him.
Lucas was charged in a federal indictment on June 12, 2019, with possessing a machine gun and possessing a machine gun not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
Lucas faces a statutory penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Bert Carraway and Glenda Haynes.
The case is part of Project EJECT, a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to fighting and reducing violent crime through prosecution, prevention, re-entry and awareness.
Project EJECT stands for 'Empower Justice Expel Crime Together' and is an initiative by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Mississippi under the U.S. Department of Justice's Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and Project Guardian.
