Methamphetamine Dealer to Face Prison Time

A notorious methamphetamine dealer in West Virginia is set to face the music after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting the distribution of the highly addictive substance. James Arnold Scott, 45, of Hansford, was arrested and charged with the crime, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 40 years in prison.

According to court documents, Scott admitted to aiding and abetting one of his drug sources in the distribution of four ounces of methamphetamine to a confidential informant for $1,150 on January 17, 2020.

The transaction took place in Huntington, and Scott further admitted that law enforcement seized cash, marijuana, methamphetamine, four firearms, one of which was stolen, and a ballistic vest during a search warrant at his Hansford residence.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) commended the investigative efforts that led to Scott's arrest and conviction. Assistant United States Attorney Negar Kordestani is handling the prosecution, while United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the hearing.

Scott is set to be sentenced on October 12, 2021, and faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in prison. The exact sentence will depend on the judge's discretion.
