James Frederick Franks, Controlled Substance Theft, Pennsylvania 2019
ERIE, Pa. - James Frederick Franks, a 34-year-old resident of Union City, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to violating federal drug laws, according to United States Attorney Scott W. Brady.
Franks, who worked as the chief pharmacist at the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, admitted to unlawfully obtaining more than 12,000 dosage units of controlled substances by fraud for personal use.
On October 15, 2019 at 1:30 p.m., Judge Susan Paradise Baxter will determine the sentence for Franks. The law provides for a total sentence of 4 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Pending sentencing, Franks was continued on bond.
Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Franks.
