James G. Moore, Jr., Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2019
A Marion County man has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for a firearms violation, announced U.S. Attorney Bill Powell.
James G. Moore, Jr., 42, of Fairmont, West Virginia, had previously pled guilty to one count of "Unlawful Possession of a Firearm" in August 2019.
Moore admitted to having a 9mm pistol in February 2018 in Marion County, despite being prohibited from having a firearm.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime through a collaborative effort of law enforcement and community partners.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Traci M. Cook and Zelda E. Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Marion County Sheriff's Office providing investigation.
Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case.
The sentence of 120 months reflects the severity of the crime and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
The community will be safer with Moore behind bars, and we commend the efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring this case to justice.
