James Gaskins, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, District of Columbia 2023

A 30-year-old previously convicted felon residing in the District of Columbia has been sentenced to 26 months in prison for his possession of a loaded Glock 9mm pistol, announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

James Gaskins was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in connection with his possession of a loaded firearm that was recovered after he attempted to flee from police in Southeast Washington.

According to court documents, on January 13, 2022, officers with the Metropolitan Police Department attempted to stop Gaskins for a traffic violation in the 300 block of 58th Street SE. Gaskins fled on foot, and a loaded Glock 9mm pistol was recovered from his possession.

Gaskins, a previously convicted felon, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and unlawful possession of a firearm on a public place. He pleaded guilty to the charges on October 27, 2022.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.
