James Heigle, Lying to Federal Grand Jury, Violating Gun Control Act, Louisiana 2023

New Orleans, Louisiana - James Heigle, age 41, of St. Tammany Parish, was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment for lying to a federal grand jury and violating federal gun control laws.

According to court documents, between May 8-29, 2019, Heigle possessed multiple firearms and a bullet-proof vest, despite having been previously convicted of a violent felony in Jefferson Parish.

Heigle's conviction precluded him from possessing firearms and a bullet-proof vest. He pleaded guilty to charges of false declarations before a grand jury and felon in possession of a firearm, as well as violent felon in possession of body armor.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit.

The sentence, handed down on September 28, 2023, also includes three years of supervised release, as well as a $200 mandatory special assessment fee for the false declarations charge and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee for the violent felon in possession of body armor charge.

The sentences are to run concurrently with each other.
