James Robert Czachowski, Alprazolam Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2018

A Pittsburgh man has pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

James Robert Czachowski, 22, pleaded guilty to two counts before Senior United States District Court Judge Donetta W. Ambrose.

In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that, in April 2018, agents interdicted an international express parcel addressed to Czachowski with a return address in the United Kingdom. The package contained 11,000 pills consistent with the size and shape of Xanax.

On April 11, 2018, United States Postal Inspectors made a controlled delivery of the parcel as addressed. Czachowski's father signed for the package, but before he could deliver it to his son, agents stopped him and obtained the package.

Czachowski admitted to investigators that he had purchased narcotics over the DarkNet for approximately one year. He paid $4,200 for 10,000 Xanax bars and intended to sell them for $1.50 per bar.

Czachowski also admitted to possessing a .22 revolver and a .380 9mm revolver, as well as numerous rounds of ammunition. As a result of a prior felony conviction, Czachowski is prohibited from possessing firearms and/or ammunition.

Judge Ambrose scheduled sentencing for July 22, 2019. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not more than 30 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and Czachowski's prior criminal history.
