Published April 20, 2026

COLUMBUS, Ohio - In a brazen display of violent crime, James Travis Scurlock, a 44-year-old man from Cardington, Ohio, has been sentenced to 14 years and 7 months in prison for robbing the same bank at gunpoint twice in the spring of 2025.

The Huntington Bank on Gemini Place near the Polaris mall was Scurlock's target on March 6 and May 16, 2025. During both robberies, he wore a black sweatshirt, jeans, white Nike shoes, black gloves, and a white camouflage mask.

According to court documents, Scurlock initially inquired about opening a bank account during the first robbery. After the teller asked him for two forms of identification, he pointed a handgun at the teller and told the teller to put money in his backpack. He stole approximately $13,700.

During the second robbery, Scurlock pointed the handgun at a teller before walking to two tellers' drawers and taking cash. He then ordered the tellers to the vault and placed more cash into his backpack. Scurlock stole approximately $27,700 during the second robbery, bringing the total amount stolen to $41,000.

Scurlock was charged in June 2025 and pleaded guilty in October 2025. The sentence was imposed today by Senior U.S. District Judge James L. Graham. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

The defendant's sentence will serve as a warning to those who would commit similar crimes, and it is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in Ohio who work tirelessly to keep their communities safe.

In a statement, Assistant Deputy Criminal Chief Noah R. Litton said, 'This case is a prime example of the FBI's commitment to protecting our communities from violent crime.'
