Jamil Murray, Cocaine Distribution, Pennsylvania 2014

A notorious Philadelphia drug dealer has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his role in a large-scale cocaine distribution ring. Jamil Murray, a/k/a 'Smooth,' a/k/a 'Mills,' was handed a 20-year prison sentence in connection with conspiring to distribute cocaine base, also known as 'crack,' and possessing with intent to distribute the illicit substance.

Murray, 33, was also found guilty of forcing a woman to engage in commercial sex acts for his sole financial benefit. The pimp and large-scale drug dealer had a lengthy and sordid history of continuous criminal behavior, punctuated only by periods of incarceration since his adolescence.

The case was investigated by the Bensalem Township Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. U.S. District Court Judge Mitchell S. Goldberg presided over the trial and handed down the severe sentence.

According to court documents, Murray pleaded guilty on May 2, 2014, and stipulated to a factual basis of his crimes. The guilty plea and stipulation came as part of a deal that spared Murray from potentially harsher penalties.

As part of his sentence, Murray was also ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release and pay a $200 special assessment. The U.S. Attorney's Office, working with the Civil Rights Division, prosecuted the case against Murray.

The harsh sentence serves as a stark warning to those involved in organized crime. Murray's lengthy prison term is a testament to the determination of law enforcement agencies to rid the streets of Philadelphia of those who would seek to peddle in illicit substances.

The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
