Alton man gets 65 months for firearm offense

A 35-year-old man from Alton, Illinois, has been sentenced to 65 months in prison for an unlawful firearm offense. Jared R. Henry was sentenced in federal district court in East St. Louis, Illinois, on September 13, 2013, for unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.

According to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, Henry was arrested after Alton Police officers responded to an anonymous tip about drug activity at his residence. The officers had an active warrant for Henry's arrest and found him lying in a bed in a bedroom in direct view of the front door.

Upon entering, officers observed Henry and arrested him. The live-in girlfriend gave consent to search the premises, and five firearms were recovered during the search.

Henry's sentence includes 65 months in prison, to be followed by three years supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and a fine of $500.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Alton Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Daniel T. Kapsak prosecuted the case.

Henry's case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible gun ownership and the consequences of breaking the law. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
