Jason Alexander Logie, Second Degree Murder, Washington 2025
A repeat offender has been sentenced to 405 months in prison for his role in a fatal car crash on the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation in Washington state.
Jason Alexander Logie, 36, of Wapato, Washington, was convicted of Second Degree Murder after a jury trial on August 20, 2025. Logie was driving under the influence of alcohol when he crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle on North Track Road, killing the driver.
The collision occurred on September 9, 2023, and Logie was subject to a deferred sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol from the Yakama Nation Tribal Court at the time of the crash. He was also on conditions of release issued by Yakima County District Court for another DUI charge from a September 2022 incident.
Logie had several previous convictions for alcohol-related driving and had completed two separate deferred sentences for similar crimes. He was also subject to an arrest warrant for DUI, Second Offense, issued in 2018 by the city of Lawrence, Kansas.
At sentencing, Logie requested a sentence of 66 months in prison, but prosecutors requested a sentence of 405 months. Chief United States District Judge Stanley A. Bastian ultimately sentenced Logie to 405 months in prison, citing his history of DUI prosecutions and numerous failures to appear and comply with court orders.
United States Attorney Pete Serrano praised the efforts of state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies in bringing Logie to justice. "One of my top priorities as U.S. Attorney is to continue to strengthen our relationship with state, local, and Tribal law enforcement," Serrano said. "Partnering with these agencies strengthens our prosecution of cases like this, where a repeat offender will be held accountable for his careless actions that cost an innocent victim their life."
The case was investigated and presented for prosecution by the Yakama Nation Police Department, with assistance from the Yakima County Sheriff's Department and the Washington State Patrol. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael D. Murphy and Courtney R. Pratten prosecuted the case.
