Published January 22, 2020

A Texas man has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender in Wisconsin, according to a recent sentencing.

Jason Ray Scott, 39, of Winnesboro, Texas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley on [no specific date mentioned] to 14 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender in Wisconsin.

The prison term will be followed by five years of supervised release, officials said. Scott was required to register as a sex offender due to a 2013 conviction in Texas for online solicitation of a minor for sexual conduct.

However, Scott failed to do so, leading to his arrest in Portage County, Wisconsin, in August 2018 on an outstanding warrant from Texas for failure to register there.

Scott had been living and working in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, from late 2017 through August 31, 2018, without reporting his employment or residence as required.

After Scott was released from state custody on the Texas warrant, but before he was charged with failure to register in Wisconsin, he traveled to Eagle County, Colorado, where he was charged with failure to register as a sex offender and sexual exploitation of a child.

The charge against Scott was the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger.
